I rewatched The Gorge on Apple TV and enjoyed it just as much the second time. Miles Teller plays Levi and Anya Taylor-Joy plays Drasa. I loved both of these outcast characters who find love on opposing sides of the mountainous gorge that separates them. The first half of the movie watches like a slow-burn love story. Both sides have been warned not to interact with the other, and yet they can’t help themselves. When they finally find a way to meet, the chemistry between them explodes as quickly as the bombs set up along the perimeter to keep the demons below from rising.

But are they demons? The second half of the movie causes the watcher whiplash. When Levi falls into the gorge, Drasa follows. Watchers feel they have been flung into a totally different movie. I liked it. I got everything I wanted. Action, romance, and some scary creatures. Sure, I needed to suspend disbelief and not question the plot too extensively, but I thought it was a fun, well-made hellscape, with impressive visuals.

The ending…well. I kept waiting for the twist and was rather let down unless I missed something, and if I did, please fill me in. I guess I wanted a twist rather than a happy ever after because I was hoping for a second film. Four shiny stars for having two movies crammed into just over two hours.
